Fundraiser for Kelowna aid worker stranded in Haiti
A GoFundMe page has been created to help a Kelowna woman stranded in Haiti in the midst of political turmoil.
Laura Allan has been working as an aid worker in Jacmel on Haiti’s southern coast for Shelters International Disaster Response and has worked as an aid worker in Haiti for nearly twelve years .
In a post on Facebook, Allan says the unrest has become so bad, the area has been without power for a number of days and protests and blockades continue to rattle the region.
” Now I read in the security feeds of ambulances being blocked from saving people Hospitals being blockades so injured and sick people cannot access it. Medications cannot travel to restock. No electricity to run equipment.
People hiding in their homes and only brief respite sometimes in mornings or this weekend to get food. That is. If they managed to have any funds, ” said Allan in a Facebook post.
