“I think what’s happening is that there are clearer lines being set by the RCMP of who is doing what jobs. Before it was more of a grey area, and moving forward, there are people that are assigned. We have seven RCMP employees at the detachment and so there is more clarity of who is dealing with Coldstream.”

Garlick says speeding vehicles continue to be a big concern in several areas.

“Everything from Sage Drive, to Kal Lake Road, Aberdeen Road, many of our main roads, Mt. Ida and Middleton Way, is what we’re looking at. We’ve already started covering them with reservists in the RCMP. We’ve hired retired RCMP officers to set up speed traps in different areas to try and slow down traffic.”

Garlick says the District is also looking at radar speed reader boards and collecting data on traffic counts and speeds on certain roads.

Garlick says that data could be used to determine speed trap sites or where speed humps could be added.

“We’ve gone to speed humps on Kal Lake Road by Coldstream School because we had people going extreme speeds through there.”

The mayor says council is also looking at adding crossing lights at Kidston and Kalamalka Roads.

“That’s a main pathway for kids coming off Middleton and heading to Kal Secondary.”
