Canadian Youth For Change on City Hall Steps

Feb 10, 2019 | 1:37 PM

A small but dedicated group of concerned teens took to the steps of the Vernon Courthouse Saturday…and what they were doing there had nothing to do with a rumored Yellow Vest gathering.

The purpose of their gathering was to address the issue of the deteriorating condition of the environment. The planet will not save itself and every little bit of awareness of this can and will help.

Spokesperson Kieran Grandbois, 16 from Seaton School says ” We are going to remove our support of the system as a whole, by refusing to participate in actions that would endanger the environment”.

The group collectively are known as Canadian Youth for Change…a local chapter of Earth Strike.

Speaking of strike…there is a planned one day strike on Sept. 27, which is open for participation by basically anybody who agrees with their stand on the environment in it’s current state.

Grandbois is aware that school administrations as well as employers may not regard their voluntary strike as a legitimate excuse to miss work or school.

As spokesperson for the group, Grandbois reiterates that it’s very important for today’s youth to realize and recognize immediate action is required to save the planet.

“We think it’s important that today’s youth is aware of the issues surrounding us because we are the future of the world and we will inherit whatever is left to us…and we need to take positive action that what is left is the best we can provide…our future has been in other people’s hands for too long. This should have been dealt with decades ago”.

The group will continue to grow its supporters with people concerned with the state of the environment whether they are students or like-minded members of the adult community.
