Oct 16, 2018 | 3:41 PM

The BC government is ready to get into the cannabis business.

Online sales for people 19 and older will begin at midnight tonight at www.bccannabisstores.com.

Customers will pay a $10 shipping fee, and the product will be sent from the distribution centre within 48 business hours.

Canada Post will conduct age verification checks when its delivered.

The first BC Cannabis Store in Kamloops will open at 10 Wednesday morning, with 24 cannabis consultants on hand to serve the customers.

85 strains of pot will be sold along with oils, capsules and pre-rolls.

Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has said additional retail stores will open in the coming months, as private cannabis retailers proceed through the license process.

Farnworth says 173 applications had been received as of Monday.

Private and public retailers will be allowed to sell dried cannabis, cannabis oils, capsules and seeds that comply with federal requirements. These stores may also sell cannabis accessories, as defined in the federal Cannabis Act, such as rolling papers, pipes and bongs.
