Several people were injured in a highway crash near Grindrod this morning.

Police say two small vehicles collided head-on just before 7 am after one of the vehicles crossed the centre line in the 6600 block of Highway 97A.

Four people were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors, but 18 year old driver from Salmon Arm is facing possible charges under the Motor Vehicle Act., with the investigation continuing.

The highway was closed for about three hours due to the incident.

RCMP are thanking the public for stopping to help out the occupants at the scene, with one vehicle carrying a small child.

“When significant things happen in a small rural area, it is often the local public who is on scene prior to emergency personnel, which was the case in today’s collision,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.
