Provincial election

NDP attacks local BC Conservative’s ‘bizarre conspiracy theories’

Oct 14, 2026 | 4:08 PM

With just over a week until the provincial election, the New Democrats are taking aim at the local BC Conservative candidate and the incumbent MLA for Kelowna Centre, Kristina Loewen.

It said voters “deserve qualified and serious representation that’s focused on priorities like healthcare and the cost of living – not bizarre conspiracy theories. “

It pointed to Loewen’s social media posts that suggest support for dangerous medical misinformation, including claims that vaccines cause cancer and autism, and that sunscreen is toxic.

The NDP said Loewen has a long history of spreading bizarre, anti-science conspiracy theories on social media, including that fluoride, aspartame, and cell phone radiation are giving people chronic illnesses.

In response, a BC Conservative Party spokesperson said NDP leader David Eby will say anything to avoid talking about his record.

“British Columbians are paying more for everything, waiting longer for care and watching good jobs leave the province. After nearly a decade of broken promises, he can’t be trusted to fix the problems he created,” the spokesperson said in an email.
