A group of local women have raised thousands of dollars for charities.

At their September meeting, the group 100 Women Who Care Vernon raised a combined $12,492.50 for local organizations.

Of those funds, $11,567.50 will be gifted to Salvation Army Food Bank Vernon, $500 will go towards Turning Points Collaborative Society, and the remaining $425 will be provided to NexusBC Community Resource Centre.

The funds were provided by members, who each contributed $75, after which they voted on the charities they wanted to support.

The group 100 Women Who Care Vernon have been operating for 10 years, meeting four times a year to determine which group they could and should be supporting. Over that time the organization has contributed nearly $400,000 to local charities.

“Every dollar we give comes from women who simply decided to show up and care,” Dione Chamber, Executive Committee member of 100 Women Who Care Vernon, stated.

“Watching that add up to nearly $400,000 in our own community is remarkable, and we’d love more women to be part of the next ten years.”

The group’s next meeting will be held at BNA Brewing at 4 p.m. November 18, and people interested in the organization were invited to attend or to learn more at their website.
