A youth advocate and climate organizer is running to represent a local riding in the upcoming provincial election.

Carter Mochinski will represent the BC Green Party on the ballot in the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding.

In a release, Mochinski said he is passionate about climate action, reducing inequality, improving education and making sure young people have a meaningful voice in society, and he wants to bring this knowledge and experience to the legislature.

“[I] represented Canada as a delegate at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30 in Brazil, where [I] advocated for climate education and spoke about the impacts of climate change on young people. [I’ve] also worked with the BC Parks Foundation and independently to support stronger connections between nature, climate education and the provincial curriculum,” Mochinksi’s release stated.

“[I’m] also a TEDx speaker and have spoken publicly about inequality in the education system, including the experiences of neurodivergent learners and the need for more inclusive approaches to learning.”

Mochinski also currently serves as the Director of Research and Publications for the B.C. Youth Council, which is a non-partisan, youth-led organization that empowers young people to develop policy solutions and advocate for positive changes within their communities.

The B.C. Green Party platform can be found online here.

Votes for the provincial election will be cast October 24.
