Along with changing to their winter tires, Acres and Road Safety at Work urged people to make sure their tires were in good condition and with a tread depth of at least the minimum legal requirement of 3.5 millimetres. However, it was recommended that treads be at least 6.5 millimetres deep to have the traction needed to respond to sudden hazards.

Winter tires are required on many B.C. highways between October 1 and March 31, though on winter passes and in high snowfall areas they are required until April 30.
