Approval given to keep Fortis rates flat

Sep 16, 2026 | 11:16 AM

Households powered by FortisBC will not be seeing a rate hike for the rest of the year.

The B.C. Utilities Commission gave approval to the utility provider to maintain the gas rate at $1.66 per gigajoule (GJ) as of Oct. 1.

Approval was also given to maintain the rate for the voluntary designated Renewable Natural Gas program at $8.66 per GJ.

“We understand that energy costs are important for our customers’ budgets and this news will help provide some certainty for the families and businesses we serve,” Sarah Nelson, FortisBC’s Director of Customer Service, stated.

“Even with the cost of gas staying the same, we’re here to help if you have questions about your bill. Our dedicated customer service team is ready to answer billing questions, provide energy-saving tips and offer personalized solutions to meet your needs.”

Power-saving tips can be found at FortisBC’s website.
