CULTUS LAKE — The body of a 13-year-old girl who fell into the water at a British Columbia lake over the weekend has been found.

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP say a police dive team located the body at around 2 p.m. Monday in Cultus Lake, about 100 kilometres southeast of Vancouver.

The investigation has been taken over by the BC Coroners Service.

The girl went missing Saturday afternoon after possibly suffering a medical emergency while floating on the paddleboard and falling into the water.

Police say she was not wearing a life-jacket at the time she fell in.

Accidental drownings in B.C. have seen a sharp rise this summer, with the province reporting a 54 per cent spike in the period starting in May when compared with last year’s figures.
