Major community centre for Glenmore breaks ground

Apr 16, 2026 | 4:16 PM

Construction of a major community centre in Glenmore has started.

The new Activity Centre will feature a modern gymnasium, multipurpose program rooms, and fitness and wellness spaces.

There will also be more than 90 new child care spaces for children aged zero to five.

Construction will continue through 2027, with the facility designed to meet high environmental performance standards.

At the groundbreaking Thursday, Kelowna city officials said the new centre will bring much needed recreation, wellness, and community gathering space to Glenmore, supporting residents of all ages and strengthening the area’s role as a vibrant urban hub through the Building a Stronger Kelowna initiative.

It will also feature outdoor gathering areas and flexible spaces designed to support everything from youth activities to seniors’ programming. The centre will also include a new Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) hub and a licensed daycare, creating a true community anchor that supports learning, childcare, recreation, and social connection in one place.
