Vernon’s newest provider of public e-scooters and e-bikes was well received this year.

Bird Canada, which took over as the city’s alternate transportation provider this year, released it’s year-end-report which stated that between March and October a total of 38,231 trips were taken on the e-scooters and another 2,085 on the e-bikes, for a combined total of 40,316 trips.

Of those trips, 28,305 of them saw the riders then go visit a local business.

Bird recorded a total of 4,670 unique riders over the course of the season, who averaged 8.63 rides each.

The company said the riders covered 88,157 kilometres on the e-scooters and 4,881 kilometres on the e-bikes, for a total of 93,038 kilometres traveled.

It was noted that the rides replaced 18,196 trips that people would have otherwise taken by car to cover a combined 41,993 kilometers of driving. By replacing those vehicle trips, the company was able to avoid expelling approximately 8,0623 kilograms of CO₂ emissions, and saved riders a combined 3,737 litres in fuel.

Bird’s report said there were only 10 incidents reported in Vernon over the season, and that none of them resulted in any serious injury or hospitalization.

The e-scooter and e-bike provider’s year-end-report will be presented to Vernon City Council at the regular meeting Monday, Nov. 24.
