Water outage for parts of Vernon for emergency water main repair

Nov 18, 2025 | 7:42 AM

An emergency water main repair will result in a 36-hour water outage for parts of the East Hill and South BX neighbourhoods.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) said water service will be suspended for the properties listed here between 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, and 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, to accommodate the work.

Additionally, while the outage is underway, water use restrictions will be in place for residents in the Old Kamloops Road, Stepping Stones, North BX, Foothills, South BX, and some Coldstream neighbourhoods. The RDNO asked that people in these areas only use their tap water for essential purposes such as drinking, food preparation, flushing toilets, pets and stock, and other similar essential uses.

Residents in the affected areas were advised to have a sufficient quantity of water stored for cooking, cleaning, and filling toilets during the outage.

Once service has been restored, the RDNO and Greater Vernon Water will issue a Boil Water Notice, which will remain in place until sample testing shows the water is safe to consume.

While the notice is in place, people are advised to bring tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking, using to prepare or make food or drink including baby formula and ice, and brushing their teeth.

The RDNO added that once service is restored people may experience discoulored water or air in their pipes. In these cases people should run their cold taps until the water turns clear, with the RDNO noting it is best to do this using an outdoor tap.
