A Boil Water Notice was issued for several properties in Vernon following a water main break Wednesday.

Greater Vernon Water issued the notice for properties on Black Road Road between 704 and 732; on 29th Avenue from 714 to 724; at 776 35th Avenue; for 3501, 3503, 3601 and 3605 12th Street; and at 3501 11th Street.

The water main break occurred on the afternoon of Nov. 12, and GVW said the break should be repaired and water service restored in the evening.

“After water has been returned, the line will be sampled and restored to normal flow,” the GVW said.

“The RDNO (Regional District of North Okanagan) is issuing a Boil Water Notice during this work to ensure continued water safety.”

People may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration, and/or air in the pipes once water service has been restored. GVW said in those cases people should run their cold taps until the water turns clear, noting it’s best to do that using an outdoor tap.

GVW also advised people in the affected area to bring water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; using to make or prepare food or drink including baby formula and ice; and brushing teeth.

The Boil Water Notice will be lifted once sample testing shows the water is safe to drink.
