Vernon council to receive draft financial plan Monday

Nov 7, 2025 | 12:58 PM

Vernon’s draft 2026-2030 Financial Plan will soon be made available to the public.

The plan, which includes an overall 10.24 per cent tax increase, will be presented to Vernon City Council at its regular meeting Monday, Nov. 10.

The plan includes a 6.74 per cent operational tax increase, which is broken down as follows:

  • 2.88 per cent to maintain current service levels
  • 2.15 per cent to offset reduced investment income due to Bank of Canada interest rate changes
  • 1.35 per cent for RCMP contract and support costs
  • 0.36 per cent for council-approved service enhancements

The plan also calls for a 3.5 per cent annual tax commitment to pay the $121-million for the Active Living Centre. That will be in place through 2027, with the possibility of it being reduced to 2.8 per cent in 2028.

After council receives the draft plan, it will be made available for the public to review and provide feedback.

An online survey will be open from Nov. 10 to 24, during which time people can voice their concerns or ideas for the plan. The survey will be available online here.

There will also be open houses held at Silverstar Brewing from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 18, and at the city council chambers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 19.

This will be the second round of public engagement, as the city also asked people to provide input on Vernon’s finances in May.

The input will be used to help guide changes to the plan, which will be considered during the 2026 Budget deliberations in December.
