VSAR responded to two calls in one day

Vernon Search and Rescue had a busy weekend with two calls for assistance coming on a single day.

The search and rescue group (VSAR) said in a social media post that it’s first call from the weekend came in the mid-morning and involved a backcountry motorists who had gotten lost in the Falkland area.

A team was dispatched and arrived on the scene to assist with the search of forestry roads in the area. Shuswap Search and Rescue and RCMP were also responding to the call.

However, just before the teams were sent off, a call came in saying the lost person had made their way out of the woods and back to civilization, so the search was called off.

Then, about half an hour after the crews had arrived back in Vernon, a call for assistance came in from the other side of the North Okanagan.

A person had injured their leg in the Lavington area, and VSAR dispatched a team that was able to locate the person, and help them up a steep slope to where an ambulance was waiting.

The search and rescue group thanked its volunteers for the work on both calls over the weekend.
