UPDATE: No injuries reported in Wednesday’s house fire

UPDATED on Thursday, Oct. 30

No one was injured as a result of the fire that significantly damaged a home in Vernon’s north end Wednesday afternoon.

Vernon Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched to the 4400 block of 20th St. around 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30 for reports of a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene and found that the blaze appeared to have had started on the back deck but spread up the walls and onto the roof.

The fire was quickly knocked down before it could spread to any neighbouring homes.

No one was injured in the fire but the house was significantly damaged and two residents were displaced. They were being assisted by Emergency Support Services.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Thursday afternoon.

A home in Vernon’s north end was seriously damaged in an afternoon fire Wednesday.

The fire started around 2:30 p.m., October 29, and burned a house in the 44-hundred block of 20th Street, near Harwood Montessori School.

Unconfirmed reports stated the fire started at the back of the home.

Vernon Matters attended the scene and saw the fire had spread up the side of the house and onto the roof, but firefighters were actioning the fire and kept it contained to the one home.

The road was closed to vehicles between 45th Avenue and the entrance to Harwood Elementary.

There was no immediate word on any injuries or the cause of the blaze, but Vernon Fire Rescue Services did ask people to avoid the area if possible.
