Prospera Place set for new operators

The City of Kelowna has selected a new company to operate Prospera Place.

It’s Oak View Group Canada (OVG) which will also operate MNP Place under the City’s ownership beginning in 2029.

The company is tasked with extended the life of the venues and ensure they continue serving the community.

The current agreement between the City and GSL expires in 2029 and the City said it will work proactively with GSL to ensure continued quality operations during the transition period.

“We are committed to ensuring that Prospera Place remains a vibrant and essential venue for our residents and visitors,” said Derek Edstrom, Divisional Director, Partnership & Investments, from the City, said in a media release Monday. “By carefully selecting the best qualified operator, we aim to enhance the facility’s offerings and maintain its status as a premier location for events and entertainment in Kelowna.”

The City said a competitive process began in 2024 to explore new opportunities for Prospera Place and MNP Place, ensuring strong value and service for taxpayers and residents. After reviewing all qualified proposals, OVG Canada was selected as the top-ranked operator to support the future of these important community venues.

OVG Canada brings proven experience, strong industry relationships, operations in Penticton and relevant Canadian venue experience including TD Coliseum (Hamilton) and Canada Life Place (London). The operational change will support needed improvements and help Kelowna attract major events, ensuring the venues continue to serve the community and contribute to a vibrant downtown. OVG Canada’s vision for Prospera Place includes modernizing premium offerings, introducing innovative hospitality concepts, and boosting year-round programming to transform the venue into a vibrant entertainment destination.
