A new public park has opened in the Greater Vernon area.

The Regional District of North Okanagan officially opened the new Jordan Nature Reserve with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The new nature reserve, located on the east side of Swan Lake, was established on a 5.7-acre property, commonly known as the Rowing Club, that the RDNO recently acquired from the Jordan family.

The RDNO said the Jordan Nature Reserve will have a focus on environmental conservation and providing the public with a space to experience natural beauty and diverse wildlife. It will also continue to be home to the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club.

“We’re proud to open this space to the community,” Bob Fleming, Chair of the RDNO Greater Vernon Advisory Committee, stated.

“It’s a place where people can connect with nature, enjoy recreational activities, and appreciate the ecological value of Swan Lake.”

The Jordan Nature Reserve features a 500 metre multi-use trail connecting Crane and Lochdale Roads, a picnic area, and hand launch for non-motorized watercraft, a 30-stall parking lot, and a pit toilet.
