Food Waste Costs

Webinar aims to reduce commercial food waste in the North Okanagan

Oct 21, 2025 | 3:00 PM

A company is trying to reduce the amount of food North Okanagan restaurants and businesses waste.

The company BetterTable will partner with FoodMesh to host a webinar offering a free, 30-minute session for North Okanagan food businesses to learn strategies to reduce food waste that in turn could boost profits and enhance stability. It will also provide local information about programs and grant opportunities they may be able to access.

BetterTable claimed that North Okanagan restaurants lose roughly seven per cent of their food revenue through waste every year, and wants to help bring that figure down.

“North Okanagan restaurants have a major opportunity to strengthen their bottom line while making a positive impact in the community,” Ben Liegey, Founder & CEO at BetterTable, said in a release to Vernon Matters.

The webinar will be held at 2 p.m. on November 5. People can register for the online event here.

BetterTable is a B.C. company that offers online training and on-site food audits with the goal of reducing food waste in commercial kitchens.

FoodMesh is a Vancouver-based corporation that also aims to reduce unnecessary food waste by uniting elements of the food supply chain and diverting surplus food to people in the community who need it most. FoodMesh has been supported by the Regional District of North Okanagan ReThink Waste Grant program in the past and has seen excess food diverted from partner businesses, charities and farmers to the local food bank.
