Intercity Bus Service Opportunity

Greyhound looking at bringing intercity busing back to Vernon, B.C.

Vernonites may have more options for travelling in the future.

FlixBus, through its subsidiary Greyhound Lines Inc., will be applying to the B.C. Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) to extend its intercity bus service throughout the province.

The company wrote a letter to Vernon City Council, asking that the mayor provide a letter of support to attach to its application.

The letter stated it would include the local community as a hub for its new service if approved.

“Our proposed service would bring regular daily connections through Vernon, linking your residents to Kelowna, Kamloops, Vancouver, Calgary, Seattle, and beyond,” FlixBus said in its letter.

“The service we’re proposing would begin operating one month after the PTB grants approval, with modern, accessible vehicles stopping in your community. This would provide your residents with direct connections to major centres for medical appointments, educational opportunities, and business travel, while also opening Vernon to increased tourism and economic activity.”

Vernon City Council voted unanimously in favour of writing a letter of support at its regular meeting Tuesday, October 14.

Speaking with Vernon Matters afterwards, Mayor Victor Cumming said the service could be beneficial.

“From [the city’s] point of view, intercity busing is important,” Cumming said.

“It’s really important that we have good intercity busing, we have a company now and this would add to it in terms of availability.”

B.C. Transit provides connections between Vernon, Enderby, Lumby, Lake Country and Kelowna, while Ebus offers more travel options including to Vancouver, Calgary, Kelowna and Kamloops.
