West Kelowna updates residents on Rose Valley water operations
The City of West Kelowna is updating residents on water operations in the Rose Valley Water Service Area for summer 2025.
A press release issued Wednesday says rising temperatures at Rose Valley Reservoir actually led to higher levels of manganese and organic matter, but, it adds, pre-treatment at Rose Valley Dam and the Water Treatment Plant kept water within safe limits. A new permanganate dosing system at the dam is reducing disinfection by-products compared with the previous chlorine method, city officials said.
For now, the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant continues to meet provincial and federal standards for drinking water.
Council approved aeration improvements at the reservoir to limit manganese migration and reduce algae, with installation planned for 2025. Also, watermain flushing is underway in Tallus Ridge to remove sediment from distribution mains, which may temporarily cause water discolouration.
