Drought Level 3

Okanagan’s elevated drought rating persists

Oct 2, 2025 | 1:13 PM

The Okanagan continues to see persistent drought conditions.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre ranked the Okanagan at Drought Level 3, on a scale of zero to five, Thursday, Oct. 2.

This marked the fourth consecutive week where the region had the elevated rating.

The lack of change to the rating came as Vernon recorded an average daytime high of 20.9 degrees over the previous seven days, while also seeing a total of just 6.7 millimetres of precipitation.

Kelowna also had similar weather with average daytime highs of 21.5 degrees and a total of 2.1 mm of rainfall over those seven days.

The River Forecast Centre said fall storms were bringing heavy rain to the coast, though noted “limited rain or storm spillover [is] expected for many interior regions, with drought expected to worsen.”

The agency added the weather pattern should shift to more dry conditions over the upcoming week.

The River Forecast Centre added the streamflows in the Southern Interior remain low, though the recent wetter weather had improved conditions for fish migration and spawning.
