Downtown restaurant closing because of ‘hospitality recession’
A popular local restaurant is closing down with the owner citing a “hospitality recession.”
Salt & Brick Kelowna on Bernard Avenue will close to the public early October.
The owner has two other restaurants in town but said he can’t keep operating a loss at this one, “…as guests are dining out less frequently, spending more cautiously, and more often than ever before are choosing to avoid alcohol altogether.”
In a statement, Casey Greabeiel said, in part, as fall arrives, they’ve already seen the traditional September decline in sales, and simply cannot face another winter of losses in the hope that 2026 will be different.
