Partial breakthrough as police make arrests for West Kelowna grass fires

Sep 18, 2025 | 2:18 PM

There will be some relief for West Kelowna residents following at least a partial resolution to the series of recent grass fires deliberately set in the area in recent days.

West Kelowna RCMP have arrested two men for two separate incidents.

The arrests were made Saturday and Tuesday shortly after fires were reported: a 32-year-old for the blaze on Dobbin Road, and a 36-year-old who admitted to the fire near Carrington Road and Gellatly Road three days later.

However, four other recent suspicious fires in West Kelowna are still being investigated, and police continue to work with partner agencies to determine their cause and those responsible.

In a media release Thursday, Cpl. Devon Gerrits, media relations officer for the West Kelowna RCMP, said intentionally setting fires creates a significant risk to the community and first responders.

“We want the public to know we are actively investigating these incidents and remain committed to holding those responsible accountable,” he said.
