Ground broken for expansion of Vernon Christian School

A local school is going ahead with a planned expansion.

The Vernon Christian School has broken ground for a campus expansion project.

The increased space will allow the high school to build a new gymnasium, additional classrooms, and parking and traffic access off Pleasant Valley Road.

The expansion comes following years of planning and fundraising.

“Reaching this milestone would not have happened without the generosity of the school community and the important partnerships that have been established,” Steve Gutknecht, the Vernon Christian School’s Director of Development, said.

“We are so thankful for the generous giving that we have received. We are grateful for the dedicated, hard work of SilverRock [Land Corp.], MQN [Architects], and all of the consultants involved. We are also thankful for the support that we have received from the leadership at the [Regional District of North Okanagan].”

The Vernon Christian School said this project would address existing constraints in the school, including the need for a dedicated gymnasium for high schoolers, more class spaces, and traffic congestion.

The school went on to say this expansion would serve in the short and medium term, but added plans were already in the works to expand further to meet long term needs.

The school expansion project was expected to be completed in December of 2026. The school added it hoped to raise another $1-million in support of this and future expansions by that time.
