Annual Food Drive

Thanksgiving Food Drive supporting people in Vernon, Kelowna

Sep 11, 2025 | 6:00 AM

An annual food drive will go to supporting local residents in need.

The B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) will be collecting financial support to help feed people across the province, including those in Vernon and Kelowna.

“More than 50% of Canadians are one paycheque away from needing to use a food bank,” organizers of the BCTFD said in a release.

“An accident, illness or job loss might be all it takes to push them over the edge.”

The money raised through the annual fundraiser will be used to fill bags of food, that are then dropped off at the residences of people experiencing or at risk of food insecurity.

The deadline to donate is September 20.

People can donate to the cause by making a monetary contribution online or by scanning the QR code below.

Organizers of the BCTFD also encouraged people to donate to their local food banks, noting key items to donate include jars of peanut butter; canned meat, fruit and vegetables; pasta and rice; soups and stews; baby formula and baby food; breakfast cereals; and shelf-stable milk or milk alternatives.

The organizers reminded people to only donate food that has not passed its expiration dates.
