A fundraising initiative has been launched to address food insecurity among North Okanagan seniors.

This year’s Good Food Box fundraiser, run in partnership with Community Foundation of the North Okanagan, aims to raise enough money to sponsor 100 North Okanagan Senior’s Good Food Boxes for an entire year.

The Good Food Box program provides people with fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods.

“Sponsoring a senior not only addresses their nutritional needs but also fosters a sense of community and connection,” the Good Food Box program said in a release.

“Each delivery serves as a poignant reminder to seniors that they are cherished and remembered. Your generous contribution can significantly impact their daily lives, offering comfort and peace of mind.”

The organization said a donation of $216 could sponsor a Senior Small Box, providing seasonally available produce to a senior for a full year. A contribution of $360 would provide additional nourishment through the Senior Small Box Plus, which includes the vegetables as well as bread, eggs, and a locally curated treat each month.

People wishing to sponsor a senior and help tackle food insecurity in the North Okanagan can make a contribution do so online here or by visiting the CFNO office in Vernon.

“Together, let’s make a difference, one box at a time,” the Good Food Box said.
