Dilworth Mountain grass fire held overnight in Kelowna

Sep 11, 2025 | 11:07 AM

Kelowna firefighters contained a grass fire on Dilworth Mountain late Wednesday night after the blaze spread uphill near Enterprise Way.

The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m. at the north end of Enterprise, close to several car dealerships. Crews hiked in from the Okanagan Rail Trail and tapped a nearby creek for water as they worked to bring the flames under control. By about 10 p.m., the fire was considered held at roughly one hectare in size.

No homes were threatened, and no evacuations were required. Crews remained on site overnight and cleared the area early Thursday morning.

A night-vision helicopter from the B.C. Wildfire Service was requested but later stood down due to drone activity above the fire. Officials warn residents that flying drones in wildfire zones is illegal and can prevent the safe use of aerial firefighting resources.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials say dry conditions mean the risk of wildfires continues in the Okanagan despite the cooler September weather.
