Mara Lake section of Rail Trail to reopen Wednesday

Sep 5, 2025 | 10:14 AM

A portion of the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail will reopen following some work on the site.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said the section of the trail along Mara Lake will reopen Wednesday, Sept. 10.

The reopening will be marked with a ribbon cutting at the 0.5 km marker.

This portion of the trail was temporarily closed on August 15 for culvert and drainage work.

The Regional Districts note there may be further closures for erosion repair work in the fall and winter once environmental reviews are completed and permits are approved. It was also stated that full access to the trail from Sicamous was still limited due to the ongoing work at the R.W. Bruhn Bridge, but it was anticipated that work would be completed and the trail fully opened in 2027.

Trail users were also reminded to follow trail etiquette when walking, running or cycling on the path.
