New middle school planned for Kelowna to add 800 student spaces

Sep 4, 2025 | 11:42 AM

Kelowna students will soon have more room to learn with the announcement of a new middle school in the Glenmore neighbourhood.

The new school, on Burtch Road, will provide 800 new student spaces as the city continues to grow.

The project is expected to cost about $101 million and is part of a broader investment of more than $400 million in building and upgrading schools across Kelowna. The design will include culturally responsive spaces developed in consultation with Indigenous communities, reflecting the provincial commitment to reconciliation and supportive learning environments.

Since 2017, the Province has funded nearly 4,400 new student spaces in Kelowna, 1,770 of which are complete. Provincial officials say they will continue working closely with the Central Okanagan School District to meet the needs of students and families as the population grows.

Editor’s note: this story has been amended to make clear the name of the new middle school on Burtch Road has not yet been determined.
