Coquihalla closed due to wildfire

The Coquihalla Highway remains closed between Merritt and Hope after the near 500-hectare Mine Creek wildfire jumped the roadway later Wednesday afternoon.

The fire had been burning in steep terrain since Monday and B.C. Wildfire had been monitoring rather than directly tackling the blaze.

The closure of the highway Wednesday took effect around 4 p.m.

Anyone travelling will need to use the detour via Highway 1 and Highway 3.
