Golf tournament raises record funds for VJH

The annual golf event in support of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital raised a record total of funds.

The Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’s 16th Annual Charity Classic golf tournament raised over $500,000.

The money raised from the event, held at Predator Ridge Sunday, August 24, will be used to purchase life-saving medical equipment for the local hospital.

“We really never imagined we’d be here again,” Kate McBrearty, Executive Director of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, said in a release.

“But here we are celebrating another record-breaking year at Charity Classic!”

The funds raised will primarily be used to purchase two Belmont Rapid Infusers. This equipment is used to stabilize patients by delivering warmed fluids at high flow rates, allowing for the average bag of blood to be delivered in just two to three minutes.

Some of the funds will also be used to help purchase other urgently needed medical equipment such as external pacemakers and vital signs machines.

McBearty said having another record breaking event could be attributed to the support from the community and sponsors, and the work by the volunteers to ensure it went off smoothly.

“It was just incredible to be in that room and be surrounded by such a feeling of positive energy, of ‘let’s get this done,'” McBearty stated.

“We’re just so deeply grateful to have a community who shares our passion and commitment to transforming healthcare in the North Okanagan.”

The VJH Foundation has raised more than $4.2-million over the 16 editions of it’s Charity Classic golf tournaments.
