Five month sentence given in flight from police, assault trials

Aug 28, 2025 | 4:43 PM

A man charged on numerous counts will be spending several months in prison.

Dale Babiy appeared in Vernon court to hear the sentences for two separate cases.

Babiy was found guilty in July on one count each of flight from police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property valued at $5,000 or more. That charge stemmed from an arrest in December of 2024 that saw police use a spike strip to stop a stolen vehicle then chase down the suspect on foot.

Babiy also pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a weapon and one count of uttering threats in April. Those charges were related to an outstanding warrant.

Babiy appeared in court Thursday, Aug. 28, where he was given credit for 139 days of pre-sentence custody in the flight from police trial, and sentenced to an additional 142 days in jail.

He was also credited for 241 days in pre-sentence custody in the assault case, and was issued a sentence of one additional day.

In total, Babiy will be in prison for 143 days.

Babiy was also issued an 18-month probation and given a three-year driving ban.
