Police urge buckle up, put phones down
Aug 27, 2025 | 9:33 AM
September is Distracted Driving and Occupant Restraint Month in B.C., and police are reminding drivers to buckle up and put their phones down.
Corporal Michael McLaughlin of B.C. Highway Patrol says, “Before tragedy strikes, we ask you to get your eyes back on the road and make sure everyone is properly belted. If you ignore those laws, it could be deadly to you, your passengers, and the people around you.”
Fines for unrestrained passengers or using electronic devices while driving range from $109 to $368.
B.C. Highway Patrol will be conducting enforcement and education throughout the month to make roads safer for everyone.
