Evacuated Peachland residents allowed home as wildfire held

Aug 27, 2025 | 7:57 AM

Dozens of Peachland residents are back in their homes after being forced out overnight when a roadside fire spread into the hillside above Antlers Beach.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations says 58 properties were evacuated early Wednesday morning but later downgraded to evacuation alerts. The affected area includes Stuart Crescent, Sherburn Road, Ferguson Road, parts of Renfrew Road and several addresses along Highway 97 near Hardy Street.

The blaze, sparked by a vehicle fire along the highway, is now classified as being held. Firefighters from Peachland, Kelowna, West Kelowna and the BC Wildfire Service remain on scene to extinguish hot spots, with smoke expected to be visible throughout the day.

The fire damaged power infrastructure, leaving some homes without electricity as BC Hydro works to restore service during hot weather.

Highway 97 was closed between Hardy Street and Renfrew Road but has since reopened to single-lane alternating traffic. Drivers are advised to expect delays and to watch for traffic control crews as fire crews continue their work.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert for updates at cordemergency.ca and to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to operate safely.
