Wildfire south of Vernon now under control

The blaze that sparked off the highway south of Vernon Sunday afternoon has been contained.
The B.C. Wildfire Service said the Boltres Creek fire was considered Under Control shortly after noon Tuesday, August 19, meaning it was not expected to grow beyond the current boundaries.
The fire sparked around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 17, and burned approximately 103 hectares, or 1.03 square kilometres, of grassland off of Highway 97 and near the Greater Vernon Disposal and Diversion facility.
As of the latest update the BCWS had a team of 27 provincial firefighters on the ground monitoring the fire boundary and extinguishing hot spots.
