Evacuation orders, alerts lifted as wildfire north of Nanaimo declared under control

NANAIMO — A wildfire burning north of Nanaimo that had forced hundreds to evacuate is now under control.

The BC Wildfire Service announced Saturday evening that the Wesley Ridge blaze burning near Cameron Lake has now been classified as under control

The wildfire service says while significant progress has been made in combating the blaze, crews remain on scene to keep up controls and

As a result, the Regional District of Nanaimo has rescinded all evacuation orders and alerts associated with the fire.

The fire had scorched nearly six square kilometres of land and was previously listed as held.

There are 75 wildfires currently burning in British Columbia, four of which are classified as out-of-control.
