Section of Rail Trail near Mara Lake closing temporarily for construction
Outdoor recreators near Mara Lake may need to find a new place to walk or ride their bikes for a few days.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said a section of the Splatsin te Secwépemc/Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail will be closed from Monday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 22, for construction.
The work being done between Kilometre 2.8 (Folland Road) and Kilometre 14.8 (Rosemond Lake Bridge), includes culvert replacement and drainage work. This work is subject to a provincial environmental permit, and can only be done between Aug. 7 and 31 to minimize the potential negative impacts to the Shuswap River watershed and fish habitat.
The CSRD said it expects the trail to be fully reopened Saturday, Aug. 23, barring any unforeseen complications.
