Small wildfire contained above Smith Creek in West Kelowna

Aug 14, 2025 | 11:05 AM

A small wildfire above the Smith Creek neighbourhood is being held, according to fire officials, as crews continue to monitor the blaze. The fire is smouldering with limited open flames and a slow rate of spread.

Despite gusty winds overnight, there was no new activity on the blaze Thursday morning.

The BC Wildfire Service deployed two crews and two helicopters to support West Kelowna Fire Department personnel. A nearby fire in the Powers Creek area was also quickly extinguished earlier Wednesday.

Both fires are suspected to be human-caused and remain under investigation.

Authorities continue to advise caution in the area and remind residents to report any signs of smoke or fire.

There are currently 80 active wildfires burning across the province.
