Development permits up in first half of 2025, but not expected to break annual records
The City of Vernon has seen some investments in new builds recently, though not as much as it has in past years.
At the regular meeting Monday, August 11, Vernon city council received a building and development highlights report from the financial department that showed construction value of building permits totaled $105-million as of June 30, 2025.
“This is trending higher than 2024, which was only at $52-million for the same period,” Ann Hoolsema, Vernon’s financial planning acting manager, told council.
“Construction permit values for [all of] 2025 are expected to be around $200-million. This is due to the anticipated permitting of the RDNO Cultural Centre project, which is helping drive this. The value of the Cultural Centre is expected to be around $30-million.”
