Push to pave
Okanagan MPs push to upgrade key Kelowna–Penticton detour route
Aug 12, 2025 | 2:42 PM
Two Conservative MPs from the Okanagan met at West Kelowna city hall with provincial Conservative politicians to push paving a key forestry road between Kelowna and Penticton.
Dan Albas of Okanagan-Lake West and Helena Konanz of Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay want federal funds from recent Highway 97 repairs redirected to the project.
With Highway 97 often closed due to wildfires and landslides, the rough forestry road is a vital detour for work, medical appointments, and airport travel.
The MP’s argue paving that roadway would improve safety and reliability during the highway’s closure.
