South Okanagan braces for heatwave as temperatures soar across southern B.C.

Aug 11, 2025 | 9:38 AM

The South Okanagan is set to experience a spike in temperatures over the next two days, as Environment Canada issues heat warnings for much of southern British Columbia.

The agency expects daytime highs to approach 35 C in the South Okanagan, Fraser Canyon and South Thompson regions. Coastal areas such as Vancouver Island, Whistler and Pemberton are also expected to see temperatures near 30 C.

Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley are under heat advisories, with daytime temperatures forecast to reach the low 30s Celsius and overnight lows near 17 C. Some waterfront and southwestern areas in Metro Vancouver may receive some relief from the heat.

Environment Canada warns that heat can affect anyone but poses higher risks for people living alone, those with certain health conditions or mental illness, people with mobility issues and those dealing with substance use disorders.

Early signs of heat-related illness include headache, fatigue, thirst, dark urine and feeling generally unwell. If symptoms appear, moving to a cooler place immediately is critical.

Officials also advise drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even before feeling thirsty, as thirst is not always a reliable indicator of dehydration.

The forecast calls for cooler temperatures starting Wednesday, offering some relief after several days of intense heat.
