UPDATE: Gas line struck, leading to Aberdeen Road closure

Update 5:15 p.m.

The road closure in Coldstream Thursday was issued after a gas line in the area was struck.

The District of Coldstream said it closed Aberdeen Road from Venables Drive to Middleton Drive after the incident occurred, which FortisBC said was caused by an external party.

FortisBC attended the scene and repaired the line, allowing the road to fully reopen around 5 p.m.

The utility provider reminded people to be cautious where they dig, and advised people to contact B.C. 1 Call at 1-800-474-6886 to learn about where gas lines are buried before putting their shovels in the ground.

Update 1 p.m.

The closure of Aberdeen Road remains ongoing, though is affecting less of the roadway.

The District of Coldstream provided an update that said the road was closed between Venables Drive and Middleton Drive, and only local traffic was being allowed through.

The undisclosed issue is still being investigated and addressed, with the district saying more details will be provide once available.

The District of Coldstream has closed Aberdeen Road to all traffic.

The closure, affecting the road between Hwy 6 and Kalamalka Road, was put in place Thursday, July 24, due to unspecified “unforeseen circumstances.”

The district said the disruption is being investigated, and updates will be provided when more information is available.

People were asked to use alternate routes until the road can be reopened.
