Central Okanagan residents invited to weigh in on evacuation planning

Jul 23, 2025 | 10:56 AM

The Central Okanagan’s Regional Emergency Program is inviting public feedback as it works to improve evacuation planning across the region.

The planning initiative aims to identify how residents would respond during an emergency and where they would go, so officials can design safer and more efficient evacuation routes.

“We’re working to make the evacuation process more streamlined, coordinated and safe for everyone in the Central Okanagan,” said Brittany Seibert, the region’s emergency manager.

She said community input is especially important to address local needs, including considerations for people with mobility challenges and those who own livestock.

Officials say the feedback will help emergency personnel define evacuation zones, set appropriate trigger points, and identify safe and effective routes using traffic control points.

Insights from the public will be combined with technical data from first responders, emergency management experts and transportation modelling.

Residents can provide input through a survey available at YourSay.RDCO.com, or by requesting a printed copy from their local government office. The survey closes Aug. 4.
