Rank rises, incidents fall

Kelowna crime down, even as ranking rises

Jul 22, 2025 | 12:28 PM

Kelowna jumped from seventh to fifth on Canada’s Crime Severity Index, but crime is actually falling.

Across the region (including West Kelowna, Lake Country, and Peachland), total crime dropped 8.8 per cent in 2024. Violent crime was down nearly 2 per cent, and non-violent crime fell over 11 per cent.

Within Kelowna itself, overall crime dropped nearly 11 per cent.

“This data tells a more complex story,” said Inspector Chris Goebel in a statement. “While our CSI ranking has changed, the number of reported crimes has gone down.”
