Tragedy on roads

Motorcyclist killed in high-speed crash

Jul 20, 2025 | 7:00 AM

A deadly crash just south of Sicamous Friday evening was caused, in part, by speed.

Around 5:30 p.m., Sicamous RCMP were called to what they described as “a serious collision” along Highway 97A near Swansea Point.

Mounties say a Harley Davidson heading north crossed the double solid line on a curve and slammed into a southbound Nissan pickup.

The 48-year-old rider died at the scene.

“Police obtained dash camera video from another motorist, which confirmed the motorcyclist had crossed into the path of the southbound vehicle,” said Sgt. Murray McNeil in a statement. “The speed of the motorcycle prior to the collision was a factor in this fatal collision.”

He noted the stretch of Highway 97A is a winding, two-lane road with an 80 km/h speed limit — and that traffic was heavy at the time.

The road was closed until about 10 p.m. No one else was hurt.
