$150K to battle mosquito

Revelstoke and Golden swat back

Jul 19, 2025 | 6:00 PM

In a last-ditch effort to help its eastern communities ward off summer swarms, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District is pulling $150,000 from reserves for mosquito control in Revelstoke and Golden.

Heavy rain and high water created ideal breeding grounds, and contractors have nearly burned through the 2025 budget.

$100,000 is set aside for Golden and $50,000 for Revelstoke. Any unspent funds will return to reserves.

Treatments use Vectobac (BTI), a natural larvicide that doesn’t harm other wildlife.

Some residents remain wary of spraying, while others are urged to take simple steps like clearing standing water and trimming yards.

Expanded treatment zones aren’t planned this year, but a full review is expected in fall 2025.
