Vernon family starts over after fire

A GoFundMe has been launched for a young Vernon family who lost everything in a house fire on June 28.

Their baby, Yusuf, was nursing when the fire broke out. With the front door already on fire, mom Sajeela grabbed him and fled out the back. All three family members escaped safely, but their home and car were destroyed.

Originally from Pakistan, the family has no nearby relatives. Their midwife stepped in to organize a fundraiser and a Facebook page to collect baby items and other basics.

They’re set to move into a new rental in August, but for now, they’re starting from scratch.
